about

Different Trains Records (DT DL 009)

Winter wrapped in sound. That's the common idea behind this Split-Release by Cerlan and debating math on Different Trains Records. Yet both artists choose a very different perspective on it: Cerlan's raw lo-fi synths sound like taken from an old video game. Along with the style of composing being strongly influenced by classical music, the work rather draws an abstract view on the process of change within the cold season. The contributions of debating math are slowly unfolding odes to nights of too little sleep. Fragments of guitars and electronic sounds are piercing through the static and tell of indolence, waking cities, snow and the waiting for spring.

Both tracks are longpieces consisting of four individual movements. Through messing around with both tapes and digital devices, vast landscapes are created while preserving the intimacy induced by slight analogue hiss and crackles.
